Discover a little-known chapter of Parisian history — the Vietnamese quarter that once thrived in the heart of the Latin Quarter.
The relationship between France and Vietnam spans centuries of history, passion and complexity, and nowhere is this more alive than in the 5th arrondissement, where Vietnamese students first gathered in the 1960s to keep their culture, language and cuisine alive far from home.
Guided by Donatien, a passionate expert in Asian culture, this stroll through Paris's first "Indochinese" quarter weaves together history, belief and food. You'll discover a bookshop dedicated to Vietnamese literature, learn about the Dragon and the Immortal Fairy — the mythical ancestors of the Vietnamese people — and find out who Bao Dai and Uncle Ho really were.
Vietnamese cuisine will also take centre stage: by the end you'll finally know the difference between a Bobun, a Gabun and a Chaybun!
We'll round off the afternoon at a local Vietnamese café for a tasting of traditional Vietnamese coffee.
Please note the tour will be conducted in French.
