Join Beth Blatt (AAWE member/playwright) for a visit to the Chapelle Expiatoire, the little-known memorial to Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette.
There, she will offer a reading of a new dramatic piece inspired by the site and the woman who helped build it: Marie-Thérèse, daughter of the executed king and queen and the only member of the immediate family to survive the Revolution. She went on to live a rich life, even becoming queen of France. Yet she remains a footnote in most history books – one of the Forgotten Women of France.
The piece, an unusual combination of a visite dramatique and a one-woman play, is a “first look” reading, giving participants a chance to be part of a work-in-development. There will be time to share feedback afterwards. It is in English and will last about 75 minutes.
